‘Why the Criticism?’ Parineeti Chopra Defends Lavish Wedding Amid Backlash

Actor Parineeti Chopra and her politician spouse Raghav Chadha encountered significant criticism for their extravagant wedding held at the scenic Leela Palace in Udaipur in 2023. The couple has since addressed the situation, labeling the surrounding speculation as an inaccurate portrayal.
Parineeti and Raghav break their silence
Parineeti addressed the online trolling during her appearance on an episode of Aap Ki Adalat alongside her husband, Raghav Chadha.
The discussion commenced with Raghav addressing the rumors regarding the booking of lavish accommodations at their wedding venue. He stated, “We held our wedding at a 5-star hotel, not a 7-star one. We reserved 40-50 rooms exclusively for our guests, and contrary to claims, none of the rooms were priced at ₹10 lakh.”
Parineeti then contributed to the dialogue by highlighting the double standards she has encountered since publicly acknowledging her relationship with Raghav.
She remarked, “Had I married an actor, producer, or businessman, the response would have been, 'Wow! This actress had such an extravagant wedding. That’s how it should be.' However, because I chose to marry a politician, the narrative shifted to suggest that he alone covered all the costs and was incapable of hosting such a grand event. This tendency for trolling and scrutiny is particularly pronounced among voters and fans. In my experience, people celebrate our joy, while Raghav's circle tends to be more critical.”
The actress revealed that her financial situation has been scrutinized since her marriage. She noted that prior to the wedding, purchasing a house or a car was seen as reasonable. “However, post-wedding, it feels as though my finances have vanished, and there is a prevailing assumption that I can no longer spend. It is merely a matter of perception,” she stated.
Parineeti contemplated the backlash, expressing that individuals often overlook the fact that their remarks pertain to her personal life, which can be quite painful. She emphasized that “those from my industry (film) were supportive of us, while those from Raghav's sphere (politics) were critical.”
