‘Why Fear Auditions?’ Shreya Chaudhry Speaks Out, Discusses ‘The Mehta Boys’

Shreya Chaudhry has experienced an exceptional two months. The second season of her series, Bandish Bandits, premiered on Amazon Prime Video in December, receiving significant acclaim. Currently, the actress is also being recognized for her performance in Boman Irani's The Mehta Boys. Shreya reflects on her achievements in 2024 and shares her aspirations for 2025.

Regarding her pursuit of diverse roles early in her career, Shreya expresses, "I am an actor with an insatiable thirst. My desire for growth is never satisfied. Even on a successful day, I never feel content; I always believe I can improve." This mindset has enabled her to lead two of the most critically lauded projects recently, earning her considerable recognition.

On the most special praise

Shreya expresses a clear understanding of the significance of certain accolades. "One of the most meaningful moments for me was when I conversed with Naseer sir (Naseeruddin Shah, my co-star in Bandish Bandits). I have always held him in high regard. He is among the kindest individuals I have encountered in this industry, and a fortunate group of us had the opportunity to participate in a workshop with him following the first season of Bandish Bandits. The insights he shared during our discussion are something I will cherish for a lifetime."

She also mentions receiving similar encouragement from Boman Irani during the filming of The Mehta Boys. "These are individuals I deeply admire, and for them to dedicate their time to me is incredibly significant. They have no obligation to extend kindness to anyone, which makes their commendations all the more meaningful," the actor remarks.

On auditioning and why it's not weird

Shreya participated in the audition for The Mehta Boys, a process she expresses a preference for. "I often hear similar sentiments from those around me, and I have never perceived auditioning as a negative experience," she remarks, further stating, "It is my primary method of persuading you to consider me for a role I am genuinely interested in. Upon entering a room, my first request is typically to be tested, even when they claim not to hold auditions, which has occurred. At times, I refrain from using the term audition."

Shreya believes this approach is effective for her at present. "As I gain more experience over time, it is possible that I may not require auditions, as many actors do not. However, throughout my career thus far, every opportunity I have secured, whether for an advertisement or any other project, has been through an audition. Therefore, I see no disadvantage in this practice," she contends.

The Mehta Boys, marking Boman Irani's directorial debut, narrates the story of a father and son who struggle to connect but are compelled to spend time together under unexpected circumstances. The film features Boman Irani, Avinash Tiwary, and Puja Sarup, and was released on Prime Video on February 7.
