Members of the renowned K-pop girl group Blackpink are encountering criticism for their use of the "N-word" in videos prior to their debut. Recently, a user on Discord, who alleges to be a former employee of YG Entertainment, disclosed confidential information concerning various South Korean artists associated with the agency.
Blackpink's Jennie, Rose and Lisa slammed for using N-word in leaked videos
A user known as "YG Leaker" on a social media platform has released pre-debut footage featuring Blackpink members Jennie, Rose, and Lisa. In these now widely circulated videos, the idols can be heard repeatedly using an offensive term. Fans swiftly criticized the K-pop stars, with one individual commenting on X, "Among all the songs, their use of the n-word while being fluent in English is astonishing; it’s clearly a choice. What is happening with YG's training?"
Several individuals expressed their discontent with Blackpink and their management, YG Entertainment. One user remarked, “The two of them who were raised in English-speaking countries should have been more aware, right?” Another user commented, “It’s surprising because Jisoo covered a Nicki Minaj song without making a mistake, and she is fully Korean.”
Additionally, an irate fan responded, “Are there really people defending them by claiming this is the company's fault? Sure, YG could have made edits or discussed it with them; however, Jennie and Rosé must also be held responsible. They have had ample exposure to global culture to understand the implications of the n-word.”
Who is YG Leaker?
While the identity of the YG Leaker is not known, they claim to be a former YG Entertainment employee who possesses terabytes of data relating to the K-pop industry moguls. Before sharing the leaks on Discord, YG leaker wrote, “Doing all this because I got fired. I hate the whole company. It's full of mobbing, racism and sexism.”
The YG leaker further name-dropped several other big South Korean agencies like SM Entertainment, HYBE Labels, Cube Entertainment, RBW, Blockberry Creative, JYP Entertainment, WM Entertainment, and Starship Entertainment. In addition to Blackpink's leaked videos, the YG leaker shared multiple other unreleased clips pertaining to popular K-pop bands and idols.
