A new documentary titled Stan Lee: The Final Chapter, directed by Jon Bolerjack, aims to reveal the poignant circumstances surrounding the final years of the Marvel legend. In the period leading up to his passing at the age of 95 in 2018, Lee faced exploitation by former business associates who sought to profit from his legacy. He endured mistreatment, manipulation, and abuse during this time.
Bolerjack, who served as an assistant to Lee, was an integral part of the comic book writer's close circle and documented his experiences through film. Lee is renowned for his contributions to Marvel Comics, having played a pivotal role in the creation of iconic teams and characters such as the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the X-Men.

Bolerjack served as both an assistant and a close companion to Lee, collaborating with him during the final four years of the writer's life.
In the opening of the new documentary's trailer, Bolerjack states, “I am Jon Bolerjack, and for the last four years of Stan Lee’s life, I had the privilege of being his assistant, his confidant, and above all, his friend. I journeyed around the globe with him, experiencing the remarkable peaks of his illustrious career, as well as the poignant valleys.”
In addition to his work with Lee, Bolerjack serves as a creative director at Narrator Inc., a film marketing company located in Los Angeles, as reported by soapcentral.com. He also has a background as a comic book artist.
Bolerjack is known to have accompanied Lee to numerous comic book conventions and film premieres around the globe, documenting memorable moments and discussions at Lee’s residence in Hollywood Hills.
He disclosed that he has dedicated the last few years to transforming hundreds of hours of footage into a documentary. A passionate comic book enthusiast, Bolerjack pursued documentary studies in film school. He first met Lee through a mutual acquaintance nearly ten years ago when he proposed the idea of creating a reality show. Following Lee's approval, Bolerjack became a member of his inner circle.
Lee passed away in 2018 at the age of 95. Bolerjack shared that the writer wished for his challenges to be acknowledged. “I had extensive conversations with him about this, even in the final days of his life. Many events occurred in his life, but I never sensed that he felt shame about them,” Bolerjack reportedly stated. “I believe he wanted his story to serve as a cautionary tale.”
“I came to see him as a friend and family, and I genuinely wanted to support him,” Bolerjack continued, asserting that he endeavored to reduce Lee's workload and advocated for more frequent breaks. “I was doing everything within my power.”
