When Neil Nitin Mukesh Asked Shah Rukh Khan to Pipe Down — And Why He Didn’t Regret It
2 months ago | 5 Views
A video featuring Neil Nitin Mukesh instructing Shah Rukh Khan to "shut up" during a 2009 award ceremony recently gained significant attention on social media. Many viewers interpreted Neil's comment as disrespectful towards Shah Rukh. However, in a subsequent interview with Hindi Rush, Neil clarified that he would never address his seniors in such a manner.
Neil says he loves Shah Rukh Khan
When questioned about the incident involving Shah Rukh Khan, Neil stated, "My perspective is quite straightforward. We are in a time where… I am not referring to Shah Rukh Sir, considering his seniority, and I hold him in high regard. I want to emphasize that I would never utter ‘shut up’ to my seniors; it was a show, and numerous factors were at play. That exchange is entirely different, and I am not even discussing that."
He further elaborated on the challenge of conveying his family's legacy, saying, "If people make comments today, how can I express my feelings towards my parents and my grandfather’s name? I comprehend it, my family understands it, and that suffices for me. I will not attempt to make a third party grasp this. If they wish to joke, let them. You are not Neil Nitin Mukesh. You do not possess such a legacy, so you may mock it. I take pride in celebrating ‘100 years of Mukesh’. I am aware of who my grandfather is."
When Neil asked SRK to ‘shut up’
At the 2009 Filmfare Awards, Shah Rukh Khan inquired about Neil's "three names," humorously asking, "I have a question for Neil Nitin Mukesh. Your name is Neil Nitin Mukesh, but where is your surname? All of them are first names."
Neil subsequently responded, “Sir, that is a very gracious question, and I sincerely appreciate it. However, may I take the opportunity to express my thoughts?” Upon receiving Shah Rukh's encouragement to proceed, Neil continued, “I must say, I find that rather insulting. It does not sit well with me. I believe you may not be aware, but my father is present here. I think it would be best if you refrained from further comments. I apologize for my candor.”
Neil Nitin Mukesh’s recent work
