Ram Madhvani's forthcoming web series, The Waking of a Nation, is set to premiere in just a few days. The narrative is centered around the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, an event that prompted the British Government to establish the Hunter Commission for investigation. In a recent interview with ETimes, Madhvani recounted his visit to Jallianwala Bagh and disclosed that twelve British actors involved in the series were previously unaware of the historical incident.
Ram Madhvani on visiting Jallianwala Bagh
Reflecting on his experience at Jallianwala Bagh, Ram Madhvani remarked, "Visiting Jallianwala Bagh evokes a multitude of emotions. The visible bullet holes on the walls elicit a profound response. I am also pleased that a memorial exists, as we have dedicated the show to honor their memory."
The filmmaker further noted that the history surrounding this event is not included in the British educational curriculum. "This is a significant issue. When our twelve British actors arrived from London, they were unaware of the incident. Upon reading the script, they expressed a genuine desire for people to learn about it," Madhvani stated.
The director is convinced that there are various avenues through which individuals can grasp the events of the past, and his web series, The Waking of a Nation, serves as one such medium.
