Bollywood actor Gajraj Rao is currently garnering acclaim for his role in Dupahiya. The actor, who previously collaborated with Shah Rukh Khan in Dil Se, reminisced about how Shah Rukh consistently exhibited more energy than his fellow actors during filming. In a recent interview with Zoom, Gajraj recounted an incident where he was advised not to push Shah Rukh during a particular scene.
Gajraj Rao recalls pushing Shah Rukh Khan to the wall
Gajraj shared a memory of a scene in Dil Se where he pushed Shah Rukh Khan against a wall, stating, “We had a scene with Shah Rukh Khan. Piyush Mishra, Raaja, and I portrayed CBI officers pursuing him. When we apprehended him, there was a bit of roughhousing, and I grabbed him by the collar and shoved him towards the wall. This occurred during rehearsal.”
He further recalled how director Mani Ratnam intervened, advising him against repeating the action. Gajraj said, “He took me aside and told me in his own way, ‘Gajraj, Shah Rukh is a hero, a star. We need to finish the film, so you cannot do this; don’t push him like that.’ We were quite inexperienced at the time, performing theater in Delhi, lacking diplomatic skills, and we got caught up in the excitement. Shah Rukh’s energy on set was always ten times greater than that of any other actor. Once Mani Ratnam left, Shah Rukh approached me, placed his hand on my shoulder, and said, ‘Gajraj, do exactly what you did earlier.’”
Gajraj commended Shah Rukh's captivating presence, noting that there are instances during fight scenes when Shah Rukh becomes so immersed that he inadvertently delivers genuine punches. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the 1998 romantic thriller "Dil Se" features Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta. While the film achieved moderate success at the domestic box office, it emerged as a significant hit internationally.
