Goose has announced that percussionist/multi-instrumentalist Jeff Arevalo is no longer a member of the band due to “behavior in [his] personal life.” This comes days after Arevalo “stepped away” from touring with the jam band so he could focus on “mental health and personal issues.”
Here’s a look at Arevalo’s statement shared in February:
Goose's upcoming album, named Everything Must Go, is scheduled for release next month. Prior to Arevalo's departure, drummer Ben Atkind exited the band and was succeeded by Cotter Ellis just over a year ago.
What are the allegations against Jeff Arevalo?
Goose has not explicitly detailed the accusations against Arevalo but has emphasized that his personal conduct "does not align with the band’s core values." In a statement posted on Instagram, Goose expressed, "We have become aware of actions in Jeff’s personal life that contradict the core values of the band. Consequently, Jeff will no longer be a member of the Goose organization."
"This is an extremely unfortunate and unforeseen circumstance, and we did not expect to face another difficult change within the band. Nevertheless, it is evident that this is the only viable path forward as we remain dedicated to upholding the principles that define our community, especially regarding respect for others and fostering a safe environment," the statement further elaborated.
It concluded with, "This recent tour presented unexpected challenges, but throughout it all, the four of us developed a stronger bond both on and off stage. We feel motivated to continue evolving as a group as we enter this new chapter, and we are profoundly thankful for everyone accompanying us on this journey."
Goose currently consists of Rick Mitarotonda (guitar and vocals), Peter Anspach (keys and vocals), Trevor Weekz (bass), and Cotter Ellis (drums and vocals).
Arevalo became a member of Goose in 2020, performing alongside Atkind and later with Ellis. He contributed additional percussion, occasionally played guitar, and took on lead vocals for the band’s rendition of The Clash's "Rock the Casbah." Additionally, he was one of the three members of the band's acoustic side project, Orebelo, alongside Mitarotonda and Anspach.
