Weston Cage, the son of Nicolas Cage, has received a sentence in connection with his felony assault case, which involved an alleged attack on his mother, Christina Fulton. The 34-year-old was spared from incarceration after a judge in Los Angeles approved a two-year mental health diversion program for him. The allegations in the lawsuit claimed that the musician "snapped" and assaulted the 57-year-old actress violently outside his residence.

Los Angeles County Judge Enrique Monguia stated, according to Rolling Stone, “Mr. Cage does indeed have a qualifying mental health disorder. I am convinced it played a significant role in the commission of the offenses he is charged with. It is evident that he was experiencing a breakdown at that time.”
Before the sentencing, Weston's attorney asserted that he was actively pursuing mental health treatment. “He hasn’t felt this well in years. He is in a positive mental state, preparing for marriage. He has relocated from his previous residence and is certainly making strides,” said lawyer Michael A. Goldstein.
Fulton, who was present at the hearing, endorsed the judge's ruling while recounting the alleged assault. “Nothing could have prepared me for April 28th, 2024, the night my son nearly took my life,” she remarked. The Hard Drive actress alleged that when she contacted Weston, he was “enraged” and in a manic episode.
The Doors star recounted that Weston began to “suffocate” her with his weight after pushing her to the floor of an elevator. “He pressed his thumb into my eye socket. The pain was unbearable. My vision went dark,” she continued, stating, “I was on the verge of losing consciousness.”
In the meantime, Goldstein informed People that Weston “is grateful that the court acknowledged his ongoing and responsible efforts toward rehabilitation and granted mental health diversion as allowed under the Penal Code.”
“This incident was clearly a result of a mental health crisis, as confirmed by his mother during her statements to the court today,” Weston's attorney added. “I am confident that Mr. Cage will persist on this path and that the charges will ultimately be dismissed at the end of the diversionary period.”
