Actor Vivek Oberoi has shared insights into a distressing chapter of his youth, during which he experienced the loss of his first girlfriend and childhood sweetheart to cancer. In a recent interview, Vivek disclosed that her passing profoundly affected him, leading him to perceive her likeness in strangers he encountered.

In an interview with Mens XP, Vivek reflected on his first romantic relationship, which began during their teenage years. "I believed, ‘This is it. She’s the one.’ I imagined us attending college together, getting married, and starting a family. I had my future all mapped out," the actor shared.

However, Vivek recounted a sudden turn of events when she fell ill at the age of 17 while he was 18. He explained, "When I was unable to contact her or her family, I reached out to her cousin, who informed me that she was hospitalized. I hurried to the hospital. We had been together for 5 to 6 years, and she was the girl of my dreams. It was then that I learned she was in the advanced stages of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. It was utterly devastating. Despite all our efforts, she passed away within two months. I was left heartbroken and shattered."

The actor expressed that her passing had a profound impact on him, stating, "For a long time, I would see her in the faces of strangers." Vivek admitted that he "refused to accept her absence," but ultimately found solace later in life through his work with children battling cancer.
