Vishwak Sen's latest film, Laila, has faced backlash from both viewers and critics, leading to disappointing box office results. The actor, whose upcoming 2024 projects, Gangs of Godavari and Mechanic Rocky, also did not resonate with audiences, has now addressed the criticism directed at him.
Vishwak Sen responds to criticism
On Friday, Vishwak utilized Instagram to issue a statement in response to the criticism surrounding Laila, while also recognizing that his recent films have not fulfilled audience expectations. He stated, “I recognize that my recent films have not met expectations. My last film faced constructive criticism, which I fully accept.”
The filmmaker extended his apologies to his supporters, stating, "To my supporters and those who have faith in me, I offer my heartfelt apologies. My goal has always been to present something innovative to the audience, and I hold the feedback I have received in high regard. As I move forward, I assure you that regardless of whether my films cater to niche or mainstream audiences, they will never descend into vulgarity. Should I produce a subpar film, you are entirely justified in your criticism, as it is you who have stood by me with unwavering love during my times of solitude."
In concluding his remarks, the filmmaker committed to returning with a compelling project, stating, “From the outset of my career, I have selected narratives that resonate with you, and I will persist in this endeavour. However, moving forward, it will not merely be about creating quality films—each scene will hold significance.” He expressed his gratitude to the producers and distributors who have shown faith in him and supported his journey. Acknowledging the constructive feedback he has received, he reassured his supporters that he would return with a robust and promising project. Until that time, he conveyed his deep appreciation for their steadfast support through both his successes and challenges, emphasizing that it meant everything to him.
Vishwak's fans commended him for accepting the criticism with grace. One comment noted, "We desire story selections akin to Falaknuma Das, ENE, AVAK, HIT. That is the Vishwak we envision! Avoid pursuing a commercial hero image—embrace your uniqueness!" Another remarked, "Take your time and return with renewed strength." A further comment stated, "I still recall your brief appearance in HIT 2—it sent the audience into a frenzy. Come back stronger."
