Vishnu Manchu is gearing up to star in the Telugu historical drama Kannappa, which tells the story of a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. He recently unveiled the film's teaser in Mumbai, and Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar was there to support him. During the event, Vishnu opened up about the film's journey and his experience collaborating with Akshay.
He reminisced about how the idea for the movie first came to him back in 2015. "Someone pitched the concept to me in 2015, and I’ve been working hard to make it happen ever since. Back then, my market wasn’t quite ready for a project of this magnitude. In 2022, we considered making another film, but the market and the scale still weren’t where they needed to be."
When asked if he had any doubts during the filming process, he said, "It’s all thanks to Lord Shiva’s blessings. I never doubted... faith can really move mountains. Everything just fell into place. All the actors I wanted to be part of this project came together perfectly."
Vishnu also shared how the last two years of working on the film have had a profound impact on him personally. "When you see the movie, you’ll notice how this journey has changed me as a person."
Vishnu expressed his appreciation for Akshay Kumar being at the event. "I don’t have a personal connection with Akshay, but I’m really thankful to have met him. He’s an amazing person, and there’s so much I can learn from him. When he stepped onto the set, I gained a lot of insight. He’s truly inspiring just by being himself. As one of the biggest stars in the country, his success comes from his dedication and passion for his work."
He continued, "When I think of Lord Shiva, Akshay Kumar comes to mind. I believe that for this generation, anyone who thinks of Lord Shiva will instantly think of Akshay’s portrayal. That’s the level of devotion we aimed to capture in this film."
Vishnu also acknowledged other actors like Mohan Babu, Mohanlal, and Prabhas, saying, "They all embody that relentless spirit of perseverance, and I’ve learned so much from them. Most of the cast joined this movie out of love for my father." He expressed his gratitude to Mohanlal and Prabhas for their roles in the film.
Kannappa, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, is set to release in theaters on April 25, 2025.
