Rajkumar Sharma, who coached Virat Kohli during his early days, has shared that Kohli, along with his wife Anushka Sharma and their kids Vamika and Akaay, is gearing up for a move to London. While he didn’t go into too much detail, Sharma suggested that Kohli is planning to leave India and settle in the UK, where he aims to spend his post-retirement life. Kohli has been seen in London quite a bit over the past couple of years, and their son Akaay was actually born there on February 15 of this year. The couple has a property in London, so it seems likely they’ll be living there once everything is sorted out.
"Yes, Virat is planning to relocate to London with his wife Anushka and their kids. He’s set to leave India soon. For now, though, Kohli is focusing on family time when he’s not playing cricket," Sharma mentioned to Dainik Jagran.
Kohli and his family spent most of this year in London. After welcoming his son, he came back to India following the T20 World Cup victory in June. He did return for the ODI series against Sri Lanka in July but then flew back to the UK, where he stayed until August. Kohli came back to India just in time for the home season, which kicked off with two Tests against Bangladesh, followed by three more against New Zealand. After India faced a 0-3 defeat against the Kiwis, Kohli and his family have been in India, celebrating his birthday with family and friends.
Right now, he's in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and his next big challenge will be the Champions Trophy, although the schedule and venues are still under wraps. It's unclear when he'll head back to London, but it might happen sometime between the Champions Trophy and the start of IPL 2025.
Sharma is still counting on Kohli to rack up more runs, even though he hasn't done so well in the last couple of Tests. After kicking off the five-Test series against Australia with an awesome century in Perth, Kohli only managed to score 21 runs in his next three innings. Still, Sharma believes Kohli will light it up at the MCG on Boxing Day and in the Sydney Test for New Year's, saying his current form isn't something to worry about.
Virat Kohli will play in the 2027 World Cup.
Virat Kohli is currently having the best phase of his cricket career. He recently hit a century against Australia in the first Test, and I have a feeling he’ll score two more centuries in the upcoming matches. This guy has always loved playing the game, and when you enjoy what you do, you tend to perform at your best. There’s no reason to worry about his form. He knows how to handle tough situations and lead his team to victory.
With Ravichandran Ashwin retiring, all eyes are now on Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are both in their mid-30s. There’s been a lot of talk about whether Kohli can stick around until the next ODI World Cup in 2027. Sharma is confident that Kohli isn’t even close to hanging up his boots and believes he could play for another five years, which would include the next World Cup in South Africa.
"Virat is still in great shape and definitely not ready to retire. I’m convinced he’ll be playing cricket for another five years and will be part of the 2027 World Cup. Our relationship is solid; I’ve known him since he was a kid, even before he turned 10. I’ve been with him for over 26 years, so I can confidently say that he has plenty of cricket left in him," Sharma added.
