Vikram Bhatt is recognized for directing films across a variety of genres, including action, romance, comedy, horror, and thriller. Throughout the last thirty years, he has created films that have become cult classics, such as Ghulam, Raaz, Awara Paagal Deewana, and Deewane Huye Paagal. Several of Bhatt's works, including Ghulam and Awara Paagal Deewana, received an 'A' rating from the censor board. Recently, Bhatt shared his thoughts on this topic and also discussed his newest directorial project, Tumko Meri Kasam.
Vikram Bhatt on the ‘A’ certificate for Awara Paagal Deewana
On Cyrus Says, a podcast presented by Cyrus Broacha, Bhatt talked about his movie getting an 'A' certificate. He said when asked if his film Awara Paagal Deewana was certified for adults that it came out 22 years ago, and in the story, Akshay Kumar’s wife dates Aftab Shivdasani, while his wife falls for Suniel Shetty. Bhatt's reputation as an adventurous filmmaker led to the film's certification for adults. He recalled that perhaps the censor board mistook his endorsement for condoning infidelity.
Plot summary of Awara Paagal Deewana
In Awara Paagal Deewana, the mysterious recluse Gulab Khatri (Akshay Kumar) captivates a submissive husband (Atab Shivdasani) and his father-in-law (Paresh Rawal). However, their fascination turns to alarm when they learn that Gulab is a wanted criminal with a bounty on his head, drawing them into a dangerous mafia conflict.
Gulab Khatri and the ruthless Vikrant (Rahul Devi) are brothers-in-law who harbor a deep-seated animosity towards one another. The only factor preventing them from unleashing chaos is Vikrant's father, an influential underworld figure (Om Puri) who maintains order between them. Following the death of the elder, Vikrant swiftly accuses Gulab of murder, prompting Gulab to flee to the United States. Meanwhile, the Acharya family, living next door, continually hinders Gulab's efforts to start anew, exploiting the reward for his capture, which ultimately leads to their demise.
Awara Paagal Deewana can be streamed on various OTT platforms, including Prime Video, JioHotstar, ShemarooMe (OTTplay Premium), and Lionsgate Play (OTTplay Premium).
Director's challenges on set
During their discussion, Bhatt emphasized the necessity for a director to maintain complete focus on set. He faces a barrage of questions—some quite absurd—and must retain all the information presented to him.
Today marks the release of Bhatt's film, Tumko Meri Kasam, which is inspired by the life of Dr. Ajay Murdia, the founder of Indira IVF. The filmmaker described the movie as being divided into two parts: the first half chronicles the establishment of the IVF clinic, while the latter half follows Anupam Kher, portraying Ajay, as he seeks to prove his innocence in a crime he did not commit.
