The newly released film Nadaaniyan has faced significant derision on social media, with users criticizing the performances of Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, as well as the film's dialogue. In response to this harsh feedback, filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has come forward to defend the young actors.

Vikram supports Ibrahim and Khushi

In a conversation with Galatta India, Vikram expressed his views on Nadaaniyan, acknowledging that while the film did not appeal to him, he did not perceive any substantial shortcomings in the acting of Ibrahim and Khushi. This film marks Ibrahim's debut, as he is the son of renowned actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh.

Vikram stated, “I struggle to comprehend the trolling directed at the film on social media, as I appreciate both lead actors—Khushi and Ibrahim. I found Ibrahim commendable; whether the film itself is good is a separate issue. Nowadays, there is a debate surrounding nepotism, and to succeed in that discussion, one must excel, which is an unfair expectation for newcomers. This is his first film. Who excels in their debut? He possesses a strong screen presence, indicating that he has acting skills. Therefore, I feel disheartened by the situation.”

He continued, “I did not observe any issues with his performance. While the film was not to my taste, I recognize that I am not its intended audience. It is aimed at Gen Z and teenagers. As a director, I found both Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi to be impressive. Additionally, Ibrahim bears a resemblance to Saif, which naturally invites comparisons. However, he stands out even in that context. I believe he is on par with Saif and surpasses Saif’s performances in his early films. I can confidently assert that Ibrahim is destined to become a major star.”

Nadaaniyan gets trolled

Upon its release, the film elicited a mixed reaction from viewers and social media users, resulting in a polarized response. A significant point of contention was the film's dialogue, which faced mockery and criticism across various social media platforms. The dialogues were penned by Ishita Moitra, recognized for her work on Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, Call Me Bae, and Half Girlfriend. She collaborated with Jehan Handa, who has previously contributed his writing skills to the series Showtime.

This film represents the directorial debut of Shauna Gautam and is produced under Karan Johar's production company. In addition to Ibrahim and Khushi, the cast includes Jugal Hansraj, Dia Mirza, Suniel Shetty, and Mahima Chaudhary. The film is available for streaming on Netflix.
