Vijay Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Manoj Bharathiraja; Kamal Haasan Offers Condolences

Actor Vijay paid his final tributes to Manoj Bharathiraja at his residence on Wednesday. Manoj, the son of renowned Tamil director Bharathiraja, passed away from a cardiac arrest in Chennai on Tuesday at the age of 48. Actor Kamal Haasan also conveyed his sympathies.

Vijay honors Manoj's memory  

Numerous videos and images of Vijay outside Manoj's home surfaced on social media. In one clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), Vijay adorned Manoj's remains with a large garland and gazed at him with a sorrowful expression. After spending some time in reflection, Vijay exited the house.

Kamal Haasan expresses condolence

On Tuesday evening, Kamal took to Twitter to share his feelings regarding Manoj's passing. He stated, "I am profoundly shocked and saddened by the news of Manoj Bharathiraja's death, the son of my dear friend and director Bharathiraja. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Bharathiraja, his family, and friends during this difficult time as they mourn the loss of their cherished son."

What happened to Manoj

His manager stated, "Manoj recently underwent bypass surgery and was in the process of recovery. Tragically, he suffered a heart attack at his home, leaving everyone in shock. Bharathiraja Sir is en route to his residence from Neelankarai. Arrangements for the funeral and other ceremonies are still to be determined."

Tributes from the Tamil film industry have poured in for him. Director Venkat Prabhu shared a photo of Manoj with friends, expressing, "It is truly shocking to receive this news... I can't believe you are no longer with us, my brother. #Manoj gone too soon... my deepest condolences to @offBharathiraja, uncle, family, and friends. May your soul find peace."

Music director Ilaiyaraaja and actor-politician Khushbu Sundar also expressed their sorrow over Manoj's passing. Khushbu remarked, "I am extremely shocked to learn that Manoj is no longer with us. His untimely departure is deeply painful. He was only 48 years old. May God grant strength to his father, Thiru #Bharathiraaja, and his family to endure this unbearable loss. You will be missed, Manoj. Rest in peace. Om Shanthi," she posted on X.

About Manoj's career, family

Regarding Manoj's career and family, he made his acting debut as a lead in the Tamil film Taj Mahal, directed by his father. He later appeared in Eera Nilam and Varushamellam Vasantham. Recently, he had taken on supporting roles in Tamil cinema. In 2023, Manoj made his directorial debut with Margazhi Thingal, a romantic drama featuring his father, Bharathiraja. His final appearance was in Prime Video’s Snakes & Ladders.

Manoj is survived by his wife, actress Ashwathi, also known as Nandana, and their two daughters, Arshitha and Mathivathani.
