Vidya Balan backed cricketer Rohit Sharma after he chose to skip the Sydney Test against Australia, citing his struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the reason. However, this decision sparked a wave of criticism online, with many suggesting it was just a PR stunt by Rohit. In response, Vidya's team has released a statement addressing the situation.

On Sunday, the actor's team released a statement dismissing the rumors, saying: “There’s been some chatter about a tweet from Ms. Vidya Balan yesterday where she praised Rohit Sharma for his graceful decision to step back as a player and captain in the last test match.”

They continued: “Let’s be clear—Ms. Balan shared this tweet entirely on her own because she was inspired by his selfless gesture, and it wasn’t prompted by his PR team. While Ms. Balan isn’t a huge sports enthusiast, she definitely appreciates those who display dignity and class in tough situations. To suggest her actions were anything but a genuine response to something she admired is just ridiculous.”

It all kicked off when Vidya tweeted her support for Rohit's choice, saying: "Rohit Sharma, what an absolute SUPERSTAR!!"

After her supportive tweet, a lot of users pointed out that she doesn’t even follow the cricketer on social media, suggesting it might just be a PR stunt. There was also a Reddit post claiming that Vidya shared a screenshot of the tweet she received and then quickly deleted it.

On another note, Rohit spoke to Star Sports and dismissed any thoughts of retiring from Test cricket. He mentioned that while he’s not in great form right now, it doesn’t mean he won’t be back in five months.

“When I’m captaining, I don’t think about what’s going to happen in 5 or 6 months. It’s all about focusing on what’s in front of us right now. Our main goal was these 5 matches. We needed to keep the trophy and win. So, when we make decisions, we always keep the team’s needs in mind,” he said.

As for Vidya, she was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 alongside Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit, and Triptii Dimri. The film came out during Diwali and turned out to be a hit at the box office.
