Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Vicky Kaushal’s film Chhaava during an event in Delhi on Friday, stating that it is "making waves throughout the country." The film's producers expressed their excitement over this acknowledgement, deeming it a historic honour.

In his address at the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan held at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi, PM Modi commended the film. He emphasized the pivotal role of Maharashtra and Mumbai in the evolution of Indian cinema, remarking, “It is Maharashtra and Mumbai that have elevated Hindi cinema alongside Marathi films. Currently, Chhaava is creating a significant impact.”

Recognizing the film's historical importance, PM Modi further noted, “It is through Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel that we have been introduced to the valour of Sambhaji Maharaj in this form.”

Producers react

The producers of Chhaava expressed their immense joy and profound honour upon receiving commendation from Prime Minister Modi.

In a post sharing a clip of PM Modi praising the film, the official account of Maddock Films stated, “A historic honour!”

The post continued, “This is a moment of great pride as the Honorable Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji recognizes Chhaava and pays tribute to the sacrifice and legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. About the film  

This historical biopic drama, which premiered in theatres on February 14, has surpassed ₹200 crore in India. The film features Vicky in the role of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, the cast includes Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Divya Dutta as Soyarabai, Vineet Kumar Singh as Kavi Kalash, and Ashutosh Rana as Hambirrao Mohite.

On Friday, the filmmakers of Chhaava announced that the film has now joined the ₹300 crore club globally, making it the first Hindi film of 2025 to achieve this milestone. Chhaava has also been declared tax-free in Goa and Madhya Pradesh.
