Veteran actor Ravikumar Menon, known for his contributions to Tamil and Malayalam cinema, passed away at a private hospital in Chennai around 9 am, as reported by On Manorama. The 71-year-old was reportedly receiving treatment for cancer, and his remains will be taken to his home in Valasaravakkam, Chennai.

According to a report from CinemaExpress, Ravikumar's son has confirmed the news of his passing. He died at Prashanth Hospital in Velachery, Chennai, on Friday morning. Following the announcement of his death, fans have expressed their condolences to his family on social media. His final rites are scheduled to take place in Chennai over the weekend.
Ravikumar was born in the Thrissur district of Kerala to Malayalam film producer KMK Menon and actress Bharathi Menon. He had a prolific career, appearing in numerous Tamil and Malayalam films as well as television series, taking on both leading and supporting roles. His first appearance in Malayalam was in the 1968 film Lakshaprabhu, while he made his debut as a lead actor in the 1975 film Ullasa Yaathra.
In addition to his work in Malayalam cinema, he featured in Tamil films, including the 1977 productions Aashirvadham and Avargal. He remained active in the industry until 2022, with notable roles in films such as Allauddinum Albhutha Vilakkum, Aarattu, CBI 5: The Brain, and Veetla Vishesham, among others.
Throughout his illustrious career, Ravikumar collaborated with prominent stars from both Tamil and Malayalam cinema, including Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, and Mammootty, and worked under the direction of renowned filmmakers like J Sasikumar and K Balachander. He also participated in a television project with Balachander.
Stint on television
In the realm of television, Ravikumar began his acting journey in 1997 with Naga’s Iyandhira Paravai, part of the Marmadesam series for Raj TV. He played a significant role in Balachander’s Jannal: Marabu Kavithaigal for Sun TV. Most recently, he appeared in an extended cameo in the serial Kannedhirey Thondrinal on Kalaignar TV. He also featured in the Telugu series Anubandham, although the majority of his work was concentrated in Tamil and Malayalam productions.
