Varun Dhawan advocates for Bollywood's transformation: "Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are not out of touch"

Varun Dhawan has been involved in the Bollywood industry for more than ten years. In a recent interview, he articulated that the industry is in critical need of transformation. He raised questions about whether those in influential roles genuinely recognize the pressing nature of this situation.
Additionally, he noted that prominent figures such as Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan have acknowledged the industry's shifts.
Varun shares his views
Varun discussed the current landscape of Bollywood during a conversation with Ranveer Allahabadia on his podcast, emphasizing the necessity for a greater diversity of voices within the industry. He expressed that those in positions of power must adapt and evolve.
"We must all progress. The individuals currently in influential roles have an age limit, and many have been entrenched in their positions for years. They are primarily in control. I am uncertain if they fully recognize this, but it is crucial to evolve with the times. We all must embrace this change, or we risk becoming irrelevant, myself included. It is challenging because there is often a reluctance to change," he remarked.
He further noted, "Emerging stars and those still aspiring to enter the industry have their networks, but those who have already achieved significant status often lack such connections. Icons like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan are not out of touch; they are cognizant of the current dynamics."
Varun believes that the industry requires a broader representation. He questioned the reasons behind the lack of diversity, stating that entering the film industry has become increasingly challenging, as individuals now have various paths to consider, whether pursuing acting, becoming influencers, or exploring opportunities in OTT platforms.
On the work front
Varun will next appear in the highly anticipated film, Baby John. This action drama, directed by Kalees, represents the Hindi production debut of Atlee, known for his work on Jawan. In the film, Varun takes on the role of a police officer and single father, embodying a character who boldly faces his challenges. The cast also includes notable performances by Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff, with a special appearance by Salman Khan. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on Christmas this year.
