Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was visibly moved during her appearance as a judge on a dance show. She became emotional and shed tears while witnessing a poignant performance that addressed the issue of sexual assault. In a moment of courage, she shared her personal experience, revealing that she had also endured sexual assault during her childhood.

What Varalaxmi said

According to a teaser released on Zee Tamil's YouTube channel, the actor expressed her support for contestant Kemy, who recounted her experiences of being harassed by her family. Moved by Kemy's story, Varalaxmi became emotional during the show and was observed wiping her tears. She subsequently shared, “I can relate to your experience. My parents, actor Sarathkumar and Chaya, were often working, which meant I was left in the care of others. As a child, I faced abuse from five to six individuals.”

‘Your story is my story’

She further expressed, “Your story resonates with mine. I do not have children, but I encourage parents to educate their kids about 'good touch' and 'bad touch.'” The actress then embraced the contestant and apologized for her emotional display on camera, explaining that she typically does not show such vulnerability in public. In response, actor Sneha promptly offered her reassurance, stating that there was no need for an apology, as it requires significant courage to share one's personal experiences.

Varalaxmi became engaged to Mumbai gallerist Nicholai Sachdev in March of the previous year. Recently, she appeared in Prasanth Varma’s Telugu film HanuMan, which stars Teja Sajja. She has also been cast in Dhanush’s Tamil film Raayan, alongside Kalidas Jayaram, Sundeep Kishan, and SJ Suryah. Additionally, she will feature in the Malayalam film Colours and a Telugu project titled Sabari.
