Val Kilmer was reportedly bedridden during his final years. The actor, known for his role in Batman, passed away at the age of 65. His daughter confirmed that pneumonia was the cause of his death, following a diagnosis of throat cancer in 2014.

According to sources close to the Kilmer family, the cancer treatment had drained the actor's energy, leaving him confined to bed for "years before his death." An insider remarked that Kilmer "simply couldn’t keep fighting at the end," noting that "his body eventually shut down." They also mentioned that he was "very frail in his final days," indicating that his passing was not unexpected.

Earlier this year, Kilmer was hospitalized, and he was readmitted to a hospital in the Los Angeles area just a week before his death. Friends and family gathered to visit him during his last days.

In February, a video featuring Kilmer wearing a Batman mask was shared on his Instagram account. However, this footage was recorded "years ago" and did not reflect his appearance in his final months. Kilmer's last public appearance occurred in 2019 when he attended the Thespians Go Hollywood Gala alongside his daughter Mercedes, 33. Currently, Mercedes and her brother Jack, 29, are making arrangements for his funeral.

Val Kilmer’s health struggles

In 2017, Kilmer publicly revealed his cancer diagnosis. He elaborated on his health challenges in his 2020 memoir, titled I’m Your Huckleberry.

“One night, I abruptly woke up to find myself vomiting blood, which stained the bed like a scene from ‘The Godfather,’” Kilmer recounted, reflecting on a night spent at the guest house of his former partner, Cher. “I immediately prayed, then called 911 and informed my hostess. Cher intervened and took charge.”

In 2021, Kilmer announced that he had overcome cancer.

In addition to undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Kilmer had two tracheostomies, which created an artificial opening in his neck to facilitate breathing. The surgeries resulted in damage to his vocal cords, leaving him with a severely limited ability to speak.
