Hollywood actor Val Kilmer, renowned for his roles in films such as Batman Forever and Top Gun, has died at the age of 65. The New York Times was the first to report this news.

Val Kilmer, celebrated for his role as the competitive naval aviator Tom "Iceman" Kazansky alongside Tom Cruise in the iconic 1986 film Top Gun, has passed away due to pneumonia in Los Angeles, as confirmed by his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, in a statement to The New York Times.
In 2014, he was diagnosed with throat cancer but later made a recovery. A documentary about his life, titled Val, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in July 2021, highlighting his dependence on a breathing tube.
In her remarks, his daughter referenced his throat cancer diagnosis and the successful recovery that followed.
Val's marriage to actress Joanne Whalley, whom he met during the filming of Ron Howard's fantasy film Willow (1988), ultimately ended in divorce. He is survived by their two children, Mercedes and Jack. For many years, Val lived on a ranch located near Santa Fe.

Val Kilmer is best known for his role as Bruce Wayne in Batman Forever, his portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone's The Doors, and his performances in various iconic films from the 1980s.
Over the course of his career, he has made a substantial impact in Hollywood with memorable films such as Top Gun, Real Genius, Tombstone, Heat, and The Saint. In 2021, he reprised his famous role in Top Gun: Maverick, despite facing difficulties with his voice due to cancer.
Kilmer took over the role from Michael Keaton in Joel Schumacher's 1995 film Batman Forever, which garnered mixed reviews. He was subsequently succeeded by George Clooney in Batman & Robin.
Born in Los Angeles and raised in Chatsworth, Val attended Hollywood Professional School and the Juilliard School. He made his off-Broadway debut in The Slab Boys, performing alongside Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon. His first television role was in the after-school special One Too Many, which also starred Michelle Pfeiffer.
In 2012, Val received a Grammy nomination for Best Spoken Word for his audio version of Zorro. His memoir, I’m Your Huckleberry, inspired by a famous line from Tombstone, was published in 2020.
