It was a random day for VJ Rakshan, a prominent anchoring face in the small screen, when he got a call from Lyca Productions approaching him for a role in Vettaiyan, the upcoming Rajinikanth film. “I was happy to have received a call from such a prestigious banner, and then they told me it is TJ Gnanavel sir’s film and finally that it is headlined by Thalaivar himself. That sealed the deal for me,” says Rakshan.
Rakshan interview for Vettaiyan
Rakshan, who is predominantly known as VJ Rakshan, has anchored various television shows, including the recently concluded Cooku With Comali. However, Rakshan says it was not media, but cinema that was his first passion when he entered the industry. Talking about his debut En Kadhal Devathai which remains to be unreleased, Rakshan says, “I entered industry to be an actor, but the project did not get released due to certain issues and malpractices. After that, I began to use media as a tool to find opportunities in cinema and create an identity for myself.
With being spontaneous and lively are the main qualities for a show presenter, Rakshan says it majorly for those reasons he found his way into Vettaiyan as well. “My character has a lot of light-hearted moments and I was even called for the film for my spontaneity. You will also enjoy in the screen, I believe.”
Rakshan also explains how Gnanavel is a very precise person and man of few words. “One day, I went up to him and speak to him about my character. He had enough and more to offer about my character. When we are hosting a show, we have more liberty, but when it comes to film, we need to stick to the character. And Gnanavel sir has meaning and reason for every frame of his. Vettaiyan too has his signature all over.”
‘All roles in Vettaiyan are strong’
With a star-studded cast from Amitabh Bachchan, and Manju Warrier, to Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati, Vettaiyan is expected to have a multi-character story. Rakshan affirms that each of them will have a strong presence in the film, including his. “It is a great blessing that I get to work in a film which has so many stars. Each of our characters have a good arc. Mine is more on the fun side, and light-hearted note. So, I was more like myself,” he adds.
Rakshan, who also appears in Manasilaayo song, is over the moon for the appreciation he received after the release of the song. Signing off this conversation, Rakshan says that he learnt dedication and planning of execution before starting something new. He also affirms that he wants to continue his journey in both big and small screens in the future.
Vettaiyan is set to hit theatres on October 10.
