Actor Urvashi Rautela recently appeared alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna in the film Daaku Maharaaj, which achieved notable success at the box office. However, the song Dabidi Dibidi faced significant criticism regarding its choreography. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Urvashi addressed this criticism.
Urvashi on the criticism surrounding Dabidi Dibidi
Urvashi clarified that Dabidi Dibidi was specifically created for Balayya’s fans, with every lyric and word thoughtfully designed to resonate with them. She stated, "When reviewing my rehearsal footage, everything appeared to go smoothly. The choreography followed our usual process for any song. I collaborated with Master Shekar, marking our fourth project together. Therefore, it was not a case of me being surprised or engaging in something entirely unconventional. Rehearsals proceeded without any issues. However, the sudden nature of the situation has made it challenging to understand why the choreography is being discussed in this manner. We did not anticipate such a reception, as everything during rehearsals unfolded as intended."
Urvashi expressed her astonishment regarding the reception of the song. Characterizing it as a "peppy" and "massy" track, she noted that neither she nor her team had foreseen such a response. While she had anticipated a favourable reception, she acknowledged encountering various viewpoints on the matter. She emphasized that she strives to ensure that constructive criticism does not diminish her passion and enthusiasm.
When questioned about whether she would be more attentive to choreography in light of the criticism, she remarked, "When discussing my choreography, it is actually quite straightforward. There is nothing amiss with it. In fact, if you concentrate solely on me within the frame, you will find it truly remarkable."
The song "Dabidi Dibidi," composed by S. Thaman, faced backlash for its perceived ‘cringe’ and ‘vulgar’ movements. In the accompanying video, Nandamuri Balakrishna is depicted striking Urvashi's belly button in time with the music and lifting her by her dress. Later in the performance, the 64-year-old actor is shown hitting the actress on the hips.
