Now, after 26 years, Satya is back in theaters, giving fans a chance to experience the story of Bhiku Mhatre on the big screen once more. A special event was recently held to celebrate this re-release, bringing together the cast and crew. During the gathering, Urmila shared a funny memory about getting a telling-off from renowned designer Manish Malhotra back in the day. Keep reading for more.
What made Manish Malhotra raise his voice at Urmila Matondkar?
At a recent event with Radio Nasha, the actress, who still looks fantastic, shared a funny story about Manish Malhotra getting mad at her back in the day. She talked about how she mentioned the price of the saree she wore in a film, which was around Rs 500. As soon as she let that slip, Manish called her up and was not happy. She recounted, "I have to give a shoutout to Manish Malhotra, who really let me have it. After Rangeela, we were struggling to find affordable sarees. So during an interview, someone asked about my looks, and I said, ‘Why is everyone so fixated on my pout and image? I’m wearing sarees that cost ₹500!’ Out of nowhere, my phone rings—back then, not everyone had mobiles. He was like, ‘Why did you say the saree was ₹500? Did you really need to say that?’ I told him, ‘Manish, that’s the whole point!’ I think he just didn’t get it then. But I bet he’d be cool with it now, knowing it all worked out."
Urmila Matondkar remembers feeling frustrated with the critics when Satya came out
Urmila shared her frustration with critics during the same chat, mentioning how they focused solely on her glamorous appearance in the film. She reminisced about a specific scene, saying, "I remember having lunch with Shefali Shah and Manoj Bajpayee… It was a bit chaotic, with everyone setting up lights and cameras… Then I noticed their body language, like a couple married for 20 years… How did they pull that off? I was just sitting there, totally convinced I was in front of some incredible talent, and I needed to step up my game to show those critics wrong who only saw my glamour, which, by the way, was all they seemed to notice. But hey, that’s in the past now."
Where can you stream Satya online?
