A bizarre internet conspiracy theory has claimed Katy Perry is JonBenét Ramsey, a child beauty queen who was murdered at the age of six. An Instagram video that has surfaced features an AI-generated video of Ramsey transforming into Perry. The clip is played to Perry’s song ‘Wide Awake.’

Perry has now reacted to the video. “wait am I,” she commented on the post.

Numerous Instagram users expressed their thoughts on the video, with one remarking, “The fact that Katy Perry actually commented makes this even better.” Another user stated, “I’ve always believed this,” while a different commenter exclaimed, “Omg, Katie is not JonBenét! People will believe anything...sigh.”

Some individuals criticized the theory as being in poor taste. One user pointed out, “This is a real child, daughter, and sister whose life was taken from her. This is incredibly disrespectful to the family. I hope they find the person responsible and bring some peace to the family.” Another added, “Please stop. Don’t disrespect that little girl like this.” A third user simply described it as “tasteless.”

The JonBenét case, which remains unresolved, has been the subject of various documentaries. The most recent release was Netflix’s "Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey," which premiered last year.

Ramsey was reported missing from her residence in the 700 block of 15th Street on December 26, 1996. She was subsequently discovered deceased in the same home in Boulder, Colorado, and an autopsy revealed that she had died from strangulation.

As stated by the City of Boulder, detectives have yet to resolve the case, despite pursuing every lead that has been presented to the department, which includes over 21,016 tips, letters, and emails. Authorities have traveled to 19 states to interview or communicate with more than 1,000 individuals related to the investigation.

“The murder of JonBenet was an unimaginable crime, and this tragedy has remained in our hearts,” remarked Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn. “We are dedicated to investigating every lead and are continuing to collaborate with DNA specialists and our law enforcement partners nationwide until this heartbreaking case is resolved. This investigation will always be a top priority for the Boulder Police Department.”

The Boulder Police have consistently collaborated on the case with various stakeholders across the nation, including the FBI, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, Colorado’s Department of Public Safety, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and several external forensic laboratories. This partnership remains ongoing.

“The murder of JonBenet Ramsey is a profound tragedy that has led to years of unresolved questions and theories. Our office has successfully prosecuted other cold case homicides and numerous murder cases,” stated District Attorney Michael Dougherty. “In each of those instances, it was the evidence that established the guilt of the defendant(s). Whether through DNA or other forms of evidence, additional information is necessary to resolve this murder. I value the collaboration with CBI, the FBI, and the Boulder Police Department.”
