Unni Mukundan’s Bold Stand: Why He Refuses Kissing & Intimate Scenes
1 month ago | 5 Views
Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan's latest film, Marco, may have been released with an A certificate, yet he expresses a preference for keeping the majority of his films suitable for family audiences. In an interview with OnManorama, he disclosed his adherence to a no-kissing, no-intimacy policy, despite facing pressure from filmmakers.
Unni Mukundan on no-intimacy rule
In his conversation with the publication, Unni reflected on his return to the role of a romantic lead after a seven-year hiatus in the upcoming release, Get-Set Baby. He acknowledged that this might be perceived as a ‘limitation’ in his acting career and recognized the challenge it presents. He attributed this difficulty, in part, to his established no-kissing, no-intimacy guideline.
He stated, “I maintain a no-kissing, no-intimate scene rule across all my films. My aim is to create content that resonates with a diverse audience.” Unni Mukundan admitted that he has faced pressure from filmmakers to incorporate intimate scenes, but he remains steadfast in his decision. He noted that many in the industry have cited examples of other actors who are more willing to engage in such portrayals.
“I remind them that there are numerous ways to depict intimacy between couples, and kissing is not the sole method. This principle is akin to how action sequences are choreographed; one may appear to strike another, yet actual contact is avoided. I hold no objections to my peers performing romantic scenes in their films. My intention is simply to cultivate an environment that ensures my films are enjoyable for family viewers,” Unni explained.
Recent work
For those unfamiliar, Unni made his debut in the 2011 Tamil film Seedan, but his significant breakthrough came with the 2012 film Mallu Singh, which achieved considerable success. He has since appeared in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu films, including D Company, Janatha Garage, Bhaagamathie, and Bro Daddy. In 2024, he featured in Jai Ganesh, Garudan, and Marco. The film Marco was released on Sony LIV and Aha in Telugu, grossing ₹60.27 crore net in India and ₹102.55 crore globally, as reported by Sacnilk.
In addition to Get-Set Baby, Unni is currently involved in the projects Mindiyum Paranjum and a film featuring Vikram.
