Veteran Bollywood actress Jaya Bachchan recently voiced her dissatisfaction with the title of Akshay Kumar's film, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, labeling it a "flop film" during a recent conclave. In response, Prerna Arora, the film's producer, expressed her strong feelings regarding Jaya's comments in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, stating that as a fan, she found it painful to hear such criticism from the esteemed actress.

Prerna encouraged Jaya to review the box office statistics for the film, stating, "First and foremost, I want to express that I am an enormous admirer of Jayaji. To me, she represents the pinnacle of talent. I can watch Guddi, Uphaar, Abhimaan, and Mili at any time and in any place, and it brings me joy. Therefore, it is quite disheartening to hear her claim that our film, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, was unsuccessful. I believe she should verify the box office results. Our film generated a substantial profit and was among the top five hits of 2017."

She went on to express her desire to present the film to Jaya Bachchan and elaborated on the reasoning behind the title, saying, "Initially, we were uncertain about the title. Including the word ‘toilet’ seemed like a gamble, particularly when paired with ‘A Love Story.’ However, we ultimately embraced the bold title. As a producer, I have embraced risks. What is cinema if it only adheres to conventional norms? Jaya Ma’am has consistently taken risks with her role selections. She starred in Doosri Sita, portraying a woman who kills her abusive husband. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is a project I take great pride in, and I would be thrilled to share it with Jaya Ma’am, should she be willing."

Jaya Bachchan expressed her disapproval of the film's title by stating, "Consider the title of the film; I would never choose to see such movies. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha—does this even qualify as a title? Is it appealing? I ask you, how many of you would attend a film with a name like that?" When she inquired if the audience would be interested in watching the film, only a handful raised their hands. She quickly concluded, "The film is a failure."

The 2017 comedy-drama, helmed by Shree Narayan Singh and featuring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, emphasized the significance of sanitation, especially in rural communities, and sought to raise awareness about the elimination of open defecation. The film garnered favorable reviews from both critics and viewers, achieving considerable box office success with global revenues totaling ₹316.97 crore.
