On December 20, Real Star Upendra's latest directorial venture, UI, will be released globally in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. Upendra has engaged in extensive promotional activities in Hyderabad, recognizing his significant fan base in the adjacent Telugu-speaking regions. However, the allocation of shows in Hyderabad has left many netizens astonished.

The discrepancy in Film Show Allocations: Telugu in Bengaluru vs. Kannada in Hyderabad

As of the latest tally on the evening of December 19, the Telugu version of UI was screening approximately 130 shows in Hyderabad, whereas the Kannada original had only 7. This situation stands in sharp contrast to the overwhelming box office success achieved by Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 in Bengaluru, which debuted with an impressive 1,300 shows in that city alone. A source has indicated that a stipulation from the distributor of Pushpa 2 to exhibitors in Bengaluru has been referenced as the reason multiplexes in Hyderabad are not presenting UI with early morning screenings.

Despite the limited number of shows, the audience response has been positive, with the city reporting five rapidly filling screenings for the Telugu version and one for the Kannada original on the evening of December 19. In contrast, the situation in Chennai is considerably less favourable, with only six screenings available for the Tamil dubbed version and an equal number for the Kannada version. In Kerala, there are two screenings—one in Tamil and one in Kannada—while no Malayalam-dubbed version is being offered.

Recently, Sriimurali's Bagheera also faced a similar situation in Hyderabad, receiving only a few screenings.

In Karnataka, however, advance ticket sales have been encouraging, with early morning shows nearly sold out. Audiences are keen to discover what Upendra has in store this time, especially given his reticence regarding the film's details. This anticipation follows the lukewarm reception of his previous film, Uppi 2, which did not resonate well with viewers.

Regarding his film, Upendra stated: While everyone will grasp the fundamental storyline, the interpretation of its deeper meanings is left to the individual viewer.

The actor and filmmaker has expressed that although his narrative is complex and open to diverse interpretations, he has crafted it as a straightforward commercial film that can be appreciated without requiring extensive contemplation.
