With a series of achievements, Priyadarshi is on a high note currently. His upcoming film where he stars as the lead is ‘Sarangapani Jatakam,’ produced under the esteemed Sridevi Movies banner by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad and directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on April 25. On this occasion, Priyadarshi engaged with the media. Here’s what he revealed about the film:

Following a success like ‘Court,’ you’re returning with ‘Sarangapani Jatakam. ’ What can we anticipate from this film?

I learned about the story of ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’ last year. It was intended to be released at the end of the previous year but experienced a slight delay. Now it’s set to be released on April 25. I’m genuinely pleased to return with this film right after a success like ‘Court. ’ I’m feeling confident and not feeling pressured.

Do you personally have faith in horoscopes like the character in this film?

Not to the degree portrayed in the film, but I do have some belief in them. In this industry, nothing is entirely within our control. We strive to create good cinema, but the outcome is beyond our influence. We originally aimed to release the film sooner, but after considering business factors and theater availability, we chose April 25.

What message does the film seek to impart?

We’re not suggesting that one should or shouldn't believe in horoscopes. However, we are illustrating the consequences when someone imposes their beliefs on others. We haven’t taken sides in the narrative.

You appear to favor emotional narratives. Why is that?

I think characters representing the common man resonate with a broader audience. Whether it’s ‘Mallesham’ or ‘Sarangapani,’ these are individuals we encounter in our daily lives. Their journeys are often filled with struggle. Stories like ‘Mallesham,’ ‘Balagam,’ ‘Court,’ and ‘Sarangapani’ are all grounded in our surroundings. In this film, I portray a young man who has a strong belief in horoscopes.

You began with comedy roles. Now you’re engaging in full-length comedy entertainers. How do you view that transition?

It's quite challenging to make people laugh these days. Indraganti has remarkable comedic timing. I've never portrayed a role like this before. It feels very new. I believe the character and the film will resonate with everyone.

What can you say about your character and dialect in this film?

Until now, I’ve mostly used the Telangana dialect. However, in this film, I utilize the Andhra dialect. I aimed to capture Indraganti sir’s style. He established a distinct track and timing for me, and I believe the audience will appreciate it.

What was the experience like working with legends such as Tanikella Bharani, Naresh, and Avasarala Srinivas?

They are all incredible performers and true icons. Vennela Kishore is an exceptional artist. Viva Harsha possesses excellent timing. Even though they are seniors, everyone was very approachable, and we enjoyed ourselves during the shoot.

Did you experience any pressure as the lead actor in this film?

It was Indraganti sir who put in the most effort for this film. More than I did, it was his dedication. I merely followed his guidance on set. I never experienced any stress.

Did you check your horoscope before entering the film industry?

Yes, prior to entering the industry, astrologers predicted that I would never become an actor. However, I was indifferent to all of that. My mother had my horoscope analyzed out of worry. I entered the industry with confidence in myself and my work.

Is this a story-driven or character-driven film?

Some films are centered around characters. In ‘Court’, not only I, but all characters were prominent. It generated excellent word-of-mouth and turned into a blockbuster. Audiences don’t attend the theaters solely because I’m in a film—they come because they believe the film will offer strong themes or content. Today’s viewers are very discerning about what to see and what to avoid. Only significant films are succeeding.

Do you self-reflect when a film flops?

Absolutely. When a film fails, I always introspect. I look at where I went wrong, what could’ve been done differently, and make sure to be more careful next time.

Do you long for a mass hero image?

There are many action heroes in our industry. Mass commercial entertainers pull great collections too. But look at Nani—he did ‘Dasara’ and then ‘Hi Nanna’, and both were hits. Earlier, even Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth, and Balakrishna followed this format—doing all kinds of films and impressing everyone. I want to do the same. If Srikanth Odela is ready, I’ll pick up a sword! (laughs)

What was your reaction when Indraganti sir narrated this story to you?

I used to dream of just taking a picture with Indraganti sir. But he came to me with a story! The moment I heard it, I felt it was amazing. He called it the story of a horoscope-crazy guy and told me the title ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’. I loved the title too. I told him, “Sir, it’s an amazing title.” I’ll never forget my first day shooting with him. I hope everyone gets a chance to work with Indraganti sir.

How was your experience working with producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad?

He’s a great producer. He produced classics like ‘Aditya 369’. Even now, he respectfully addresses newcomers like me as “sir.” He’s very humble. I consider myself lucky to have worked under his banner.

Are there any premiere shows planned for the film?

We’re going to Vizag for ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’ promotions. We’re doing events there and will be organizing premiere shows too. We want to show the film a bit early—if people like it, they can come to the theatres. Our film will entertain everyone with laughter.

Do you think the audience’s taste has changed now?

Yes, today’s audience prefers films with solid content. They love stories of the common man. In films like ‘Lucky Bhaskar’ and ‘Pushpa’, the hero is a common man who rises. Even Chiranjeevi sir did many such films in the past and won hearts.

 What are your upcoming projects?

I’m doing a film called ‘Premante’ with a new director under Asian Cinemas. I’m also doing another project titled ‘Mitramandali’ under Geetha Arts, produced by Bunny Vas. I’m listening to a few more scripts. I want to focus more on films with strong roles.
