Billy Ray Cyrus' performance at the Liberty Ball has raised concerns among his family due to its unfortunate nature. During the inaugural event for Donald Trump, the country singer experienced significant technical difficulties, which compelled him to deliver a cappella rendition of his popular song, "Achy Breaky Heart." Following this unexpected display of behaviour on stage, his son Trace took to social media to express his heartfelt worries.
Trace Cyrus urges dad Billy Ray to get ‘help’ after concerning behaviour at Trump's inaugural ball
On Wednesday, Trace took to Instagram to express a heartfelt message, imploring his father to seek “help.” The 35-year-old began by reflecting, “From my earliest memories, I have always been captivated by you, believing you were the most remarkable person.”
He continued, “I aspired to emulate you. The day you chose to adopt me remains the happiest day of my life.” However, he lamented, “Regrettably, the man I so deeply admired is now someone I can hardly recognize.” Accompanying his message was a nostalgic photograph of himself beaming while sharing a memorable moment onstage with Billy Ray.
Trace further stated, “It appears that life has taken a toll on you, and this is evident to everyone except yourself. You might be displeased with my decision to share this, but at this juncture, I am indifferent.” He also mentioned that his sisters, Noah, Brandi, and Miley Cyrus, have been “truly concerned” for him over the years.
The 63-year-old has unfortunately distanced himself from all of his children. Trace expressed, “Noah has longed for you to be part of her life, yet you have not been present for her. She is your daughter and deserves more.” He further remarked, “Despite everything, she, like me, still looks up to you. We are all clinging to the memories of the man we once knew, hoping for his return.”
The Ashland HIGH alumnus emphasized that Billy Ray is “not in good health” and that “everyone is aware of it.” Trace added, “Just as I was there for you at Mamaw's funeral when you least expected it, I remain here for you now,” before revealing that he wrote the note with “tears in my eyes.”
“I hope you understand that this message is sent from a place of love and concern, fearing that we may lose you too soon. I love you, Dad,” Trace stated, acknowledging that he has not communicated with his father “in quite some time.” He shared that he has been “over a year and a half sober from alcohol.”
Reflecting on his journey to sobriety, Trace mentioned that he feels “incredible.” He addressed his father again, saying, “I may not know the specifics of your struggles, but I have a strong sense of what they might be.” He expressed his willingness to assist, stating, “I would love to help you if you are willing to open up and accept support. You know how to contact me. Until that day arrives, I will keep you in my prayers.”
Billy Ray Cyrus faces backlash over ‘disastrous’ Liberty Ball performance
Shortly after commencing his performance on Inauguration Day, Billy Ray encountered technical difficulties. While performing "Old Town Road," the artist expressed concerns regarding his guitar. He inquired of the stage crew, “Is my guitar still on? I believe they have cut me off. I can no longer hear my guitar,” as reported by the New York Post.
“Check. Is anyone awake?” he continued. “I can’t hear it. Do you all hear this? Where is everyone? Check. Is anyone back there? Can someone turn my guitar back on? We’re going to sing a little longer,” Billy stated, growing increasingly frustrated and questioning whether they wanted him to “get the hell off the stage.” “I don't give a damn,” he exclaimed.
A technician arrived to assist Billy, who described his guitar as being “dead.” He then encouraged the audience to “just snap your fingers” while he performed a cappella. After his performance, he remained on stage even after the lights had been turned off. As he awkwardly moved about, he required assistance to exit the stage.
In response to his questionable conduct, fans took to social media to criticize his performance, labelling it as “disastrous.” One user expressed on X, “Oh my god! Billy Ray Cyrus’ performance at Donald Trump’s inaugural Liberty Ball is an epic disaster,” according to the outlet.
Another fan remarked, “It seems that Billy Ray Cyrus had a LOT more than just TECHNICAL ISSUES going on at the Liberty Ball just now,” while yet another added, “That was truly a scary experience. Not sure if he was sick or drunk or both. Hope he is ok.”
