The BJP's Twitter account is expressing their admiration for John Abraham's new movie, The Diplomat. In this film, Abraham plays the character JP Singh, a diplomat who comes to the aid of an Indian woman named Uzma trapped in Pakistan. Recently, the BJP's Twitter handle posted an extensive thread detailing the true story that inspired the film.

BJP uncovers the real story behind The Diplomat

India's diplomatic prowess was prominently highlighted in May 2017 when the Modi administration successfully brought Uzma Ahmed back from a forced marriage in Pakistan. This real-life rescue, recently portrayed in the John Abraham film, demonstrated quick and effective governance spearheaded by the late former External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj and diplomat J.P. Singh, who played key roles in ensuring Uzma's safe return. They also shared several tweets detailing the actual events surrounding the story.

Uzma Ahmed's nightmare started when a Pakistani man in Malaysia tricked her into coming to Pakistan. Once there, she was drugged, forced into a marriage at gunpoint, assaulted, and kept captive in Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. After returning to India, Uzma described her experience in Pakistan as a ‘well of death,’ saying, 'It's easy to go to Pakistan, but hard to come back.'

While stuck in Pakistan, Uzma cleverly convinced the greedy Ali to take her to the Indian High Commission, claiming she needed to collect dowry. Once she was inside, she shared her harrowing story with Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh, who acted quickly to ensure her safety and alerted the then External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj. After confirming her Indian citizenship, Swaraj firmly stated, 'We will bring her back home.'

Ways the government supported Uzma

In the midst of a challenging legal struggle, diplomat J.P. Singh emerged as a champion, guiding Uzma through her legal battle against Pakistan's laws that required a husband's consent for her to leave. On May 24, 2017, the Islamabad High Court ruled in her favor. The following day, she successfully crossed the Wagah Border, bringing her three-week ordeal to an end and marking a significant diplomatic win for India.

Uzma Ahmed’s rescue highlighted the Modi government’s dedication to safeguarding Indian citizens abroad, regardless of their social standing, caste, creed, gender, or religion. Thanks to Sushma Swaraj’s proactive diplomacy and J.P. Singh’s quick actions, she was able to return home safely. Upon her arrival in India, Uzma expressed her gratitude, stating, “I’m proud to be Indian. Sushma madam saved me; they could’ve sold me!” This underscores the life-saving effect of India’s prompt response.

The thread continued, "This is PM Modi’s India, where leadership is characterized by action, diplomacy by determination, and the safety of citizens is a top priority. From Uzma’s courageous rescue to large-scale evacuations like those in Ukraine, India has consistently shown that no citizen is ever left behind. As Sushma Ji once said, 'Indians are never alone!'"

The film, which premiered on March 14, received positive reviews from both critics and audiences, earning Rs. 4.03 crore on its opening day at the domestic box office.
