Thalapathy Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan': The MGR Influence Behind the New Look
1 month ago | 5 Views
The producers of Thalapathy 69 have revealed the film's title, Jana Nayagan, accompanied by two posters that serve as a tribute rather than the typical portrayal of the male protagonist's elevation. One poster appears to express Vijay's gratitude towards his fans for their unwavering support, while the other honours the late MG Ramachandran, who was both an actor and a former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
New posters of Jana Nayagan
Upon reflection, the initial promotional poster for the film portrayed Vijay as a 'torchbearer of democracy.' The title selected for his final film translates to 'leader of the masses,' and both posters unveiled on Republic Day appear to serve as a prelude to the forthcoming chapter of his political career.
The inaugural poster featured Vijay attired in blue, positioned atop a vehicle while capturing a selfie with a vast crowd clad in white.
This poster serves as a tribute to the selfie taken with fans in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, during the filming of Master in 2020. At that time, Vijay donned a similar outfit and boarded a bus to capture a selfie with the fans who had assembled to see him. With the release of this new poster, Vijay appears to express his enduring gratitude for the affection shown by his fans.
Shortly after the announcement, the producers released an additional poster featuring him within a white frame, joyfully wielding a whip against a vibrant red background. The phrase ‘nan aanai ittal’ (if I order) is prominently displayed on the poster.
Fans of Tamil cinema will recall that "Naan Aanaiyittal" is a song featured in MGR's 1965 film "Enga Veettu Pillai," which is a remake of the 1964 Telugu film "Ramudu Bheemudu," originally starring Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, a notable actor and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. In this song, the protagonist wields a whip to demonstrate his dominance over the villain. Its immense popularity led to MGR starring in a film of the same title in 1966.
Vijay’s last film before politics
Vijay established his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, in 2024 and is preparing to participate in the upcoming 2026 elections. His film, Jana Nayagan, is anticipated to be his last cinematic endeavour prior to his political career. Directed by H Vinoth, Vijay's 69th film also features a notable cast including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani.
The film is produced by KVN Productions and includes a musical score by Anirudh Ravichander. There is speculation that the film may be a remake of Anil Ravipudi’s 2023 production, Bhagavanth Kesari, which starred Balakrishna, the son of the late NTR, along with Kajal Aggarwal and Sreeleela; however, official confirmation is still pending.
