2 days ago | 5 Views
Lately, some songs in Tollywood have faced criticism for their questionable dance moves. It seems the audience isn't the only one worried; the Telangana State Women’s Commission issued a warning on Thursday, stating they would take legal action if more 'objectionable' and 'derogatory' songs are produced.
The Telangana State Women’s Commission has warned the Tollywood film industry
Sharada Nerella, the Chair of the Telangana State Women’s Commission, released a statement on Thursday addressing concerns about certain dance moves in films. She mentioned that the commission has received numerous complaints about these moves being inappropriate and disrespectful to women. The statement emphasizes that this is a significant issue, especially since cinema holds considerable influence.
In light of this, the Women's Commission is urging filmmakers, producers, choreographers, and others in the industry to be more responsible. They stressed that any indecent dance moves that demean women must be halted immediately. If this advice is ignored, the commission is prepared to take serious action in accordance with the law.
Sharada and the commission also highlighted the film industry's ethical duty to its audience, asserting, “The film industry must convey positive messages and uphold the dignity of women. Considering the effect films have on youth and children, it’s crucial for the industry to practice self-regulation.”
The statement concluded by inviting individuals and organizations to share their thoughts and concerns, enabling the commission to keep track of the situation and take necessary steps.
The internet responds
Sitar Song featuring Ravi Teja and Bhagyashri Borse in Harish Shankar’s Mr. Bachchan, Peelings with Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in Sukumar’s Pushpa 2: The Rule, Dabidi Dibidi starring Balakrishna and Urvashi Rautela in Bobby’s Daaku Maharaaj, and more recently, Adhi Dha Surprisu with Ketika Sharma in Venky Kudumula’s Robinhood, which stars Nithiin and Sreeleela, are just a few examples of songs that have faced criticism for their choreography.
In response to the commission's warning on X (formerly Twitter), one user suggested that choreographer Shekhar master, who worked on all these tracks, should reconsider his career choices. Another user commented, “I usually dislike outside interference in films, but this action is definitely needed right now. It’s about time.” While some felt that “better judgment prevailed,” others questioned, “How can anyone decide what’s obscene? Everyone has different tastes.”
One user on X even remarked, “That’s the job of the CBFC. Why is the Women’s Commission getting involved? What legal authority do they have?” In contrast, another user pointed out, “Kids are dancing to songs like 'kissik' and 'oo antava' and 'dabidi dibidi muddu peru Swathi Reddy'—what’s going on here?”
