Zoe Saldana made history as the first American of Dominican descent to receive an Oscar, winning for her performance in Netflix's Emilia Pérez. Additionally, Flow marked a milestone as the first Latvian film to win an Oscar, taking home the award for best-animated feature.

The evening celebrated diversity, with wins for directors from Iran (In the Shadow of the Cypress) and Brazil (I'm Still Here). The documentary No Other Land, created through a collaboration between filmmakers from Israel and Palestine, won best documentary, highlighting the eviction of communities from the West Bank by the Israeli military.

In a competitive field that included The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, I'm Still Here, Nickel Boys, The Substance, and Wicked, Anora was awarded the best film trophy.
