Tanishaa Mukerji, the runner-up of Bigg Boss 7 and an accomplished actor, recently shared her perspectives on feminism during an interview with Hauterrfly. She articulated that the term "feminism" is rooted in American culture and does not resonate with the cultural values of India.

Tanishaa on feminism

In her discussion on feminism, Tanishaa expressed skepticism towards the term itself, asserting, "This word originates from America, which is arguably one of the least feminist nations. I must question the notion of freedom in a country where women face restrictions on abortion in certain states, where a woman has yet to serve as president, and where the right to vote was historically denied to women. In my view, India embodies true feminism."

Tanishaa further emphasized the respect afforded to women in India, asserting that the nation possesses a profound cultural reverence for women. "While we do face challenges, these do not stem from a lack of respect for women within our culture. Hinduism instills respect for women in both genders, but the impact of British colonialism has led to a decline in our cultural values. Additionally, societal issues such as crime are more closely linked to overpopulation than to cultural factors. Figures like Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva exemplify the respect for women that is inherent in our traditions. We are, in fact, a nation that empowers women."

Reflecting on traditional gender roles, Tanishaa noted that historically, men would often allocate their entire earnings to their mothers or wives, a practice that persists in many households today. She also voiced her concerns regarding the portrayal of feminism in contemporary Bollywood, criticizing the tendency to simplify the concept by labeling women as "strong" or "feminist" merely based on their employment status.

The video featuring the actor gained traction online, garnering numerous accolades for her perspectives. One viewer commented, "Perfect... This exemplifies wisdom." Another remarked, "At last, a rational woman." A third individual stated, "Absolutely correct." Conversely, some expressed dissent regarding her views, with one person questioning, "Did anyone ask her to define and spell feminist?" Another comment noted, "Discussing the nation and addressing religion are not the same. The true essence of Hinduism is not being adhered to in practice."
