Kerala is devastated and in mourning following the terrible event that claimed lives in the Wayanad district's Chooralmala and Mundakkai early on July 30. Numerous landslides occurred in the area, resulting in over 150 fatalities, numerous injuries, and many stranded individuals. The neighbouring states, such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, have also offered assistance in different ways. Actors from the Tamil film industry are now stepping forward in the interim to offer their sympathies and financial support to the victims.
Actors express condolences for Wayanad landslide victims
Vikram expressed his condolences for the victims and gave Rs 20 lakh to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund. On their social media accounts, Kamal Haasan and Vijay also urged the government to provide the required rescue and relief measures.
“I express my gratitude to the army personnel and the dedicated state government employees who risked their lives to rescue the people in difficult and dangerous situations,” wrote Kamal Haasan on Twitter. Tamil Nadu chief minister contributed Rs 5 crore to the fund yesterday (July 30), apart from offering ground support for rescue services. With the number of victims rising daily, more assistance is anticipated in the upcoming days.
Actors from Malayalam have been requesting people to contribute whatever they can to the relief fund. Social media users were sharing videos of actress Nikhila Vimal volunteering to collect necessities for the victims.
Malayalam films’ theatrical release postponed
The latest reports state that Malayalam films that were supposed to be released in theatres on August 2 have been postponed. The heavy rains that are battering parts of the state and the landslides in Wayanad that claimed multiple lives on July 30 are the causes of the delay. This Friday, August 2, was supposed to be the release date for the Manju Warrier film Footage, the comedy drama Adios Amigo starring Asif Ali and Suraj Venjaramoodu, and the horror drama Chithini starring Vinay Forrt.
