Filmmaker Tahira Kashyap, who is married to Ayushmann Khurrana, found out she had Stage 0 breast cancer back in 2018. She had a mastectomy during that time. As she went through her treatment, she lost her hair but confidently posted a picture of her bald head on social media. However, her parents weren't thrilled about her sharing that photo. Tahira Kashyap shares that her parents were not happy

Tahira, who made her directorial debut in 2024, recently chatted with Filmfare and shared that her parents were really upset with her. She mentioned that they stopped talking to her and pressured her to take down a photo. Tahira explained, "My parents were really unhappy when I posted my bald picture after my cancer diagnosis. For a woman, being bald is often seen as a disaster, so they wouldn’t speak to me and insisted I remove it. But I told them, ‘I’m not doing that. I’m celebrating this moment, and you need to get that.’ They honestly thought I had lost my mind, asking how I could celebrate being physically ill.'"

What did Tahira Kashyap do next?

In the same interview, the filmmaker shared that she had a video call with her parents and asked them to be happy for her. She mentioned, "I wasn't sure how to get my parents to talk to me, so I called my mom on video and showed her my face. I said, ‘Check me out, this is how I look now, and I’m loving it.’ I even had on some goggles, which made her chuckle a bit. Then I told her, ‘This is how life is, I’m happy, and you should be happy for me too.’ They still didn’t quite get what ‘feeling happy’ meant."

After overcoming cancer, Tahira frequently discusses her experience on social media, aiming to raise awareness as much as she can.
