Actor Taapsee Pannu has addressed her Pink co-star Kirti Kulhari's recent comments about feeling "sidelined" during the film's promotion. Taapsee mentioned that she had no idea Kirti felt that way back then and acknowledged that Kirti must have had her reasons for saying what she did.
Taapsee addresses the claims of being snubbed by Kirti
In a chat with The Times of India, Taapsee addressed Kirti's comments about feeling overlooked during the promotion of their 2016 movie, Pink.
Taapsee mentioned, “How can I know? She’s totally entitled to her feelings. I would never tell someone their feelings are invalid. If she felt a certain way, there’s definitely a reason behind it. She expressed her thoughts, and if I had realized she felt sidelined, I would have reached out to her to see if there was anything I could do to help. Sadly, I wasn’t aware there was an issue at the time, so I’m not sure how to handle it. I can’t just dismiss her feelings.”
When discussing her relationship with Kirti, Taapsee continued, “Since she perceived our relationship in a specific way, she might have felt some distance from me. I’ve always kept things professional with her, and that hasn’t changed. I also worked with her on Mission Mangal, and from my perspective, nothing shifted professionally. To me, she was still the same person I collaborated with on Pink.”
What did Kirti mention?
In a chat with Fever FM, Kirti shared her feelings about being 'sidelined' during the promotion of her movie Pink, mentioning that Taapsee ended up being labeled 'the Pink girl.'
Kirti explained, “When Pink came out, I never thought about who was more important in the industry. I viewed it as a story about three girls. I came from a mindset that we’re all actors and in this together. But Pink made me experience a lot of that ‘big star-small star’ vibe. The people around you can really influence how you feel.”
She also expressed her surprise at the trailer, which featured mostly Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee, but Shoojit Sircar reassured her that the film would showcase more than that.
“I noticed the trailer was mostly about Taapsee and Mr. Bachchan. That was a real shock for me because I knew the role I played in the film. Shoojit told me, ‘Don’t stress about it, just wait for the film to release.’ I usually don’t do PR because I trust that my work will be recognized eventually. But during the promotions, the focus was on Taapsee since she was next in line after Mr. Bachchan in the film. It turned into her film, and I watched her become the Pink girl in terms of how she was positioned. That was a big surprise for me because I just couldn’t wrap my head around it,” she added.
All About Pink
Shoojit Sircar directed Pink, a gripping legal thriller featuring Amitabh Bachchan as a lawyer defending three women who were attacked by the son of a politician. The movie received rave reviews and did well at the box office, raking in ₹157 crore. It was later remade in Tamil as Nerkonda Paarvai in 2019 and in Telugu as Vakeel Saab in 2021.
