Actress-turned-politician Saayoni Ghosh represented the TMC in Jadavpur and won with a good margin. After her victory, Swastika Mukherjee posted her photo with Saayoni and congratulated her. She was trolled for that.

This is not the first time. Swastika was trolled after greeting Mamata Banerjee during the Puja carnival of 2022. Netizens attacked her calling Mamata’s sycophant. Now, she shared her photo with Saayoni and congratulated her. Saayoni replied, ‘Thanks a lot. This post is precious to me.’

But Swastika was criticized for her post. She told Hindustan Times Bangla, “I know that I will be trolled for the next month for this post. Many people will say that I am oiling Mamata or am doing this to increase my power. They can say that if they wish to. But to me, my colleagues’ first identity is that they are my colleagues and we work at the same place. Then the political identities come, or whether I have a difference of opinion with them. These things come to me later. Saayoni is first of all an actress to me.”

She also said, “If someone among my friends or relatives stands first in the exam or makes good results, we congratulate them. Why can’t I congratulate Saayoni just because she did politics?”

Saayoni came to politics in 2021 before the assembly election. She had been vocal on many issues before joining the TMC and was involved in many controversies. She worked as the state president of the party’s youth wing.

According to the election results that came on June 4, Saayoni won with a margin of two and a half lakh. This is her first success in an election. In the 2021 assembly election, she contested as the TMC candidate in Asansol South. Agnimitra Paul from the BJP contested with her. Saayoni was defeated by Agnimitra in that battle.
