Traditionally, married women conduct Ma Durga Boron on the day of Dashami, just before the idol immersion. However, this ritual is now extended to other women also. Actress Swastika Dutta was spotted doing baran this year. She also took part in the sindoor khela. The actress revealed that this was a part of her ‘amazing’ secret.

Swastika told the media that female empowerment is celebrated through sindoor khela. Red is a holy color. Hence, conventional thoughts should be amended. Rules made by man to reach God can be broken. The actress does not believe in the rule that only married women can do Baran. She was seen playing sindoor with Darshana Banik wearing a white saree with a red border and with light makeup. She shared the photo and wished Subho Bijaya to all. She sent pranam to the elders and expressed love for the youngsters.

Swastika added that she did it because she wished to. Some could tell it is contrary to the rule, but people now know what happens when the rule is obeyed. This year, she needs more power from Maa. Her age is increasing and so is her responsibility towards society. Hence she needs Maa’s blessing and does Uma baran despite being single. How did she feel? Swastika said, “Initially I felt a bit strange. But it was wonderful. I had goosebumps. However, there were many things to pray for, but I could not ask for anything for me.”
