Swara Bhasker Criticizes Outrage Over Chhaava, Contrasting It With Mahakumbh Tragedy Response
1 month ago | 5 Views
Swara Bhasker, famous for her roles in movies like Nil Battey Sannata, the Tanu Weds Manu series, and Veere Di Wedding, recently pointed out how people reacted more emotionally to Vicky Kaushal's historical film Chhaava than they did to a tragic stampede. She called out society for its inconsistent outrage.
Swara calls out society for its pick-and-choose outrage
On Wednesday, Swara Bhasker hopped on X (formerly Twitter) and shared, "A society that gets more worked up over the dramatized, somewhat fictional torture of Hindus from 500 years ago than over the tragic stampede and the chaos that followed, including the reported bulldozing of bodies, is seriously lacking in both brainpower and compassion. #IYKYK."
Her comments followed the viral videos and reactions from the audience about Chhaava. Some folks were on board with her views about selective outrage, while others weren't so pleased. One tweet said, "Absolutely! People are all about the drama, not the real stuff. It feels like everyone is dodging reality just to dive into the dramatic tales on screen..." Another user chimed in, “Selective outrage says a lot. Real justice is about addressing all tragedies, both old and new. What we prioritize really matters. #IYKYK.”
Swara is dealing with some criticism
Somebody took a jab at Swara's comments about Chhaava, saying, "Sure, Swara... Chhaava was made up. If the filmmakers had shown the real torture, the Censor Board would’ve shut it down. Your husband's group did some terrible things during Mughal times. More films are on the way... You just need to toughen up." Another person chimed in, "Wow, you’ve really missed the point." Yet another user added, “The historical torture was so brutal that the filmmakers had to tone it down just to get the movie out there. The Mughals were savages!”
Chhaava and the Mahakumbh stampede disaster
Chhaava, featuring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has been making waves with audiences. Many clips have surfaced showing viewers in tears and expressing anger over the brutal treatment Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj faced at the hands of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, leading to his tragic end. In one touching moment, a young fan was spotted sobbing and chanting slogans in the theater after the film.
The movie, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, and Vineet Kumar Singh, has raked in over ₹200 crore globally within just five days and is still going strong at the box office.
On a darker note, the Mahakumbh stampede resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people and left over 60 devotees injured. Disturbing reports suggest that a JCB bulldozer was used to clear the bodies, adding to the tragedy of the situation. On February 15, a stampede at New Delhi railway station claimed the lives of at least 18 individuals, including children, after a sudden influx of passengers heading to Prayagraj for the final phase of the Maha Kumbh, which was exacerbated by poor management.
