Reema Kagti's film, Superboys Of Malegaon, has garnered favorable feedback from both audiences and critics alike. The cast includes Adarsh Gourav, Shashank Arora, and Saqib Ayub in key roles. The narrative is inspired by the true story of Nasir Shaikh, a wedding videographer from the textile town of Malegaon, who harbors a deep passion for cinema. In light of the film's acclaim, Saqib disclosed that he had to turn down a role in Vicky Kaushal's hit film, Sam Bahadur.
Here's why Saqib Ayub rejected Sam Bahadur
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Saqib Ayub disclosed that upon securing a role in Superboys Of Malegaon, he was also cast in Sam Bahadur at the same time. While filming a show for Applause Entertainment in Goa alongside Ileana D’Cruz, Vihaan Samat, and Divya Dutta, he received a call regarding Sam Bahadur.
"Subsequently, the same casting directors reached out to me for Superboys Of Malegaon as well. Initially, I was asked to audition for the character of Akram. After that, I was invited to audition for Farogh, and ultimately, I tested for Irfan, for which I was selected."
About Superboys of Malegaon
Superboys of Malegaon is a coming-of-age film that draws inspiration from the 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon. The narrative centers on Nasir, a wedding videographer with a passion for cinema, and his companions as they embark on creating their own films in the quaint town of Malegaon, influenced by iconic Bollywood classics.
According to the OTTplay review of Superboys of Malegaon, "Beauty can be found in every aspect of Reema Kagti, Varun Grover, and the team's heartfelt tribute to cinema, as they present a biographical drama that transcends the boundaries of a traditional biopic."
Saqib Ayub on Superboys of Malegaon
The actor acknowledged his familiarity with the town of Malegaon, attributing this knowledge to his Muslim background and his residence in Andheri, a locality with a significant Muslim population. However, he admitted that he was unaware of the events that transpired there. "I was aware that the people from Malegaon have distinct personalities, as I have interacted with them. Yet, I had no idea that a fully developed film industry existed there," he remarked.
In other news, the film, produced by Zoya Akhtar and Excel Entertainment and directed by the talented Reema Kagti, features a cast that includes Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saqib Ayub, Shashank Arora, and Anuj Singh Duhan. It premiered in theaters on February 28, 2025, and will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video following its theatrical release.
