Ranbir Kapoor has officially confirmed his participation in the highly anticipated film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and has shared some insights regarding the project. Following this announcement, Sunny Deol, whose casting had been speculated for some time, has also recently confirmed his role in the film. The actor and filmmaker disclosed his involvement and provided additional information about the production.
During the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Ranbir revealed that the filming for the first part of the two-part trilogy has been completed. He stated, “It has two parts,” and mentioned that while Part 1 has wrapped, he will soon commence filming for Part 2. Ranbir expressed his deep honour in portraying the character of Ram, describing the experience as a dream come true. He emphasized the significance of the narrative, which reflects the values of Indian culture, particularly in relation to family and marital dynamics.
The enthusiasm surrounding the project has significantly increased following Sunny Deol's confirmation. In an interview with the Indian Express, he revealed that the films Avatar and Planet of the Apes have inspired the ambitious Ramayana project. The creative team, including the writer and director, has a clear vision for the project, particularly regarding the portrayal of the characters.
In light of the criticism faced by several recent high-budget adaptations of the Ramayana, such as Om Raut's Adipurush featuring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, which were noted for their subpar special effects, Sunny has assured that Tiwari's film will feature breathtaking visuals. He emphasized that the special effects will create an immersive experience, making it appear as though the events on screen are unfolding in real time rather than being computer-generated. He expresses confidence that the final product will be exceptional and enjoyable for all audiences.
Sunny has yet to confirm whether he will portray the character of Hanuman.
Producer Namit Malhotra shared his vision for the project on social media in November, stating that over a decade ago, he embarked on a noble mission to adapt this epic, which has captivated billions for over 5,000 years, for the big screen.
He conveyed his enthusiasm regarding the advancements made by the teams. Their primary objective is to develop a visually stunning, authentic, and sacred adaptation of the history, truth, and culture known as the Ramayana, intended for audiences worldwide. Namit further encouraged fans to join them on this journey as they endeavour to bring this monumental epic to life with respect and integrity.
As reported, the project features a star-studded cast, including Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Renowned Kannada actor Yash will portray Ravan, while Ravi Dubey has already signed on to play Lakshman. The premiere of the film's first instalment is scheduled for the Diwali season in 2026, with the second instalment expected to follow in 2027.
