Sunny Deol Confirms Role in Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana,' Aims for Avatar-Like Visuals

Nitesh Tiwari's adaptation of the Ramayana is among the most eagerly awaited films in Bollywood. Ranbir Kapoor is set to portray Lord Ram, while Sai Pallavi will take on the role of Sita. There had been speculation regarding Sunny Deol's involvement as Hanuman, and the actor has now officially confirmed his participation in the project.
Sunny Deol confirms being a part of Ramayana
In a recent interview with SCREEN, Sunny Deol acknowledged his involvement in Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation of Ramayana. He stated, “Ramayana is an extensive project as they aim to produce it in a manner similar to the films Avatar and Planet of the Apes. A team of skilled technicians is contributing to this endeavour. The writer and director have a precise vision regarding the presentation of the characters and the overall direction of the film.” Nevertheless, he refrained from disclosing whether he would portray Lord Hanuman in the production.

He further emphasized that the film will be visually captivating, stating, “The special effects will create a sense of authenticity, making you feel as though the events are genuinely occurring rather than merely being special effects. Frankly, I am confident it will be exceptional, and I believe everyone will appreciate it.”
At the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Ranbir announced the completion of filming for the first part of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, mentioning, “The project consists of two parts. I have wrapped up the shooting for Part 1 and will begin filming Part 2 shortly. It is a privilege to portray Ram in this narrative. It is a dream come true for me. This film encompasses everything, illustrating the essence of Indian culture—family relationships and the dynamics between husband and wife.” Ravi Dubey also confirmed his role as Laxman in the film.
Previously, a leaked image of Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi from the Ramayana set gained significant attention on social media, further heightening anticipation for the movie. Produced by Namit Malhotra and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is scheduled for release in two parts. The first part is expected to debut during Diwali 2026, while the second part is slated for release in 2027.
