Actor Suniel Shetty is filled with joy as he prepares to embrace the role of a grandfather. In a conversation with Chanda Kochhar on her podcast, he disclosed that his daughter, Athiya Shetty, and cricketer KL Rahul are expecting their first child, expressing his enthusiasm for this new addition to the family.

Regarding Athiya's impending motherhood, Suniel was inquired about the topics of discussion at the Shetty family dinner table. He responded, “At this moment, the focus is solely on the grandchild. There are no other discussions, nor do we desire any. We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of the grandchild in April.”

The actor further remarked on Athiya's beauty during this time, stating, “Everything centers around the baby; whether it is a boy or a girl is inconsequential. I have always believed that women, in general, radiate beauty during pregnancy, and I have always thought that Mana (his wife) looked most stunning when she was expecting. Seeing Athiya now, she is truly at her most beautiful.”

About the couple

About the couple, Athiya, known for her roles in films such as Hero, Mubarakan, and Motichoor Chaknachoor, wed Indian cricketer Rahul in January 2023 after a few years of dating.

In April of the previous year, Suniel mentioned his excitement about becoming a 'nana' (grandfather) during an episode of Dance Deewane. When host Bharti Singh playfully questioned him about the type of 'nana' he would be, the actor replied, “Yes, when I return next season (to Dance Deewane), I will walk onto the stage as a nana.”

Fans interpreted this as a confirmation from the actor regarding Athiya Shetty and Rahul's impending parenthood, although the couple did not address the speculation at that time. On Rahul’s birthday that same month, Suniel referred to him as his ‘son’ and expressed, “It is said that what truly matters in life is not what we possess, but who we have. I feel blessed to have you in our lives, as it is a connection that is beyond explanation.”

Athiya and Rahul officially announced in November that they are expecting their first child in 2025.
