In response to a question about surprising incidents from his extensive career in the film industry, Suniel reflected on his arrival in the US just prior to the 9/11 attacks. He vividly described the moment he turned on the television on the first day of shooting and witnessed the unfolding tragedy. He also mentioned a phone call from his wife, Mana, who expressed her concern for his safety.

Suniel recounted an incident where he found himself locked out of his hotel room and requested a key. This seemingly innocuous request led to a significant misunderstanding. He explained, “I had a beard and was walking into the hotel. After forgetting my keys, I entered the lift and encountered an American gentleman who kept staring at me. I asked if he had his keys since mine were misplaced, and when I gestured for assistance, it seemed to escalate the situation.”

He recalled how the man quickly exited and caused a scene, prompting armed police officers to rush in from outside. “The officers arrived, guns drawn, and ordered me to the ground, threatening to shoot if I did not comply. I was bewildered and had to kneel down as they handcuffed me. It was only when the production team arrived, including a Pakistani manager who informed them of my identity as an actor, that the situation began to de-escalate. I was uncertain about what would happen next amidst the chaos.”

Recent work

In terms of his recent projects, Suniel Shetty was last seen in the 2023 film Operation Friday and made a special appearance in the upcoming 2024 film Ruslaan. He is currently filming Welcome to the Jungle and is set to star in Hera Pheri 3. His most recent work in the South Indian film industry was the 2022 Telugu film Ghani, which did not perform well at the box office.
