Suneel Darshan, a distinguished writer, producer, and director, recently recounted an intriguing story from his extensive collaboration with Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar. Their successful partnership has produced numerous hit films, including Jaanwar, Ek Rishtaa, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, Talaash, Andaaz, Dosti, and Mere Jeevan Saathi. Darshan reflected on a particularly memorable and emotional episode that deepened their relationship.

Following the success of Jaanwar, rumours began to circulate suggesting that Darshan was contemplating a new project with a different actor. At that time, a rising star, fresh off a significant success, was gaining attention in the industry. Upon hearing this, Akshay Kumar, who had already established himself as a reliable collaborator, visited Suneel Darshan’s office.

Suneel recounted, “Akshay Kumar heard from somewhere, likely a rumour, that I was embarking on a new film with another hero. So, Akshay came to my office and expressed his desire to speak with me, to which I agreed.” Akshay, having become a familiar face in Suneel’s office due to his frequent visits, added a personal touch to the encounter.

Eager to address the misunderstanding, Akshay insisted that Suneel accompany him in his car for a private discussion. “He drove me to the end of the street and then said, 'I heard from someone that you’re making a film with someone else,'” Suneel recalled. “I was taken aback and asked, ‘Who informed you about that?’ He responded, ‘There’s news circulating in the market.’” In response, Suneel clarified that the new actor Akshay had mentioned was the son of a notable figure who had approached Suneel to review some footage.

Akshay Kumar was not content with merely resolving the misunderstanding. In a moment filled with emotion and significance, he grasped Suneel’s hand and made a heartfelt commitment: “Please do that again. Sunil Ji, I promise you 100 films.” Suneel Darshan was deeply touched by this gesture. “I thought to myself, he has truly become a complete actor. No one makes a promise of 100 films,” he remarked. “To be candid, at that moment, I was his best option.” 

This moment underscores not only the friendship between Suneel and Akshay but also the trust and respect that characterized their relationship. Over the years, they have collaborated on numerous successful films, solidifying their status as one of Bollywood’s most legendary director-actor duos.
