Punjabi artist Sunanda Sharma has recently accused Punjabi music producer Pinky Dhaliwal of exploiting her by failing to make payments for her songs. In light of these allegations, the producer was apprehended on Saturday. The singer has since shared her reasons for making these claims in a heartfelt post on social media.

Sunanda expressed her thoughts on Instagram, emphasizing that her situation reflects the struggles of every middle-class artist ensnared by exploitative individuals. She articulated in Punjabi, “This matter transcends mere financial concerns; it pertains to the psychological distress I endured. It represents every artist hailing from a middle-class background who aspires to establish a career, only to be ensnared by those who exploit them. They compel us to labor diligently while they construct their own fortunes with our earnings. They regard us as if we are beggars. Oh Waheguru, your followers perceive themselves as superior to you.”

Sunanda says she thought of ending her life

She additionally stated, "I experienced mental harassment. There were days when I would weep alone in my room, and at times, I even contemplated ending my life. Nevertheless, I succeeded in maintaining a smile. I realized that if I displayed my tears in front of others, I would become ensnared by another predator." She also encouraged all artists who have faced similar exploitation to step forward and share their experiences.

In her statement, the artist called upon the government to assist her in obtaining her rightful compensation. She expressed, "For the past two years, I have been pleading, ‘For God’s sake, please refrain from this.’ I urge the government—please aid me in receiving what I am owed. I extend my gratitude to our Chief Minister for addressing my concerns. You have not only acknowledged my situation but also the voices of countless women who have been unable to advocate for their rights. I also appreciate the support from the Punjab media."

Pinky Dhaliwal, the operator of enterprises such as Mad4Music and Amar Audio, faces allegations of unlawful, exploitative, and defamatory behavior. Sunanda asserts that this conduct has led to substantial financial losses, mental distress, and damage to her reputation. In her formal complaint, the singer contended that the producer coerced her into performing at various events without providing the appropriate compensation. She remarked, "Even though my earnings surpassed ₹250 crore during this timeframe, the accused unlawfully seized all my income and withheld my rightful payments. I did not receive a single direct payment. This overt financial exploitation has profoundly affected my financial stability and overall well-being."

Additionally, she claimed, "The accused has amassed significant personal wealth through my earnings, solely by exploiting me financially. His sudden and unexplained increase in wealth is a direct consequence of his illegal activities, which include the misappropriation of my earnings, unauthorized collection of performance fees, and manipulation of my financial rights." The singer also alleged that whenever she sought her payments, the producer threatened to damage her career and tarnish her reputation within the industry.
